About the Film: When Sweetie—Jane Campion’s first feature—screened at Cannes, roughly 2000 film critics were simultaneously outraged, perplexed, disgusted, disturbed and fascinated. It’s the story of two sisters, one thin, trim, unsmiling and disciplined—actually repressed—and the other heavy and nearly feral. In their opposite ways, both act out in an explosion of color and behavior. (99 minutes)
