About the Film: Now, many think of Fellini as the maker of La Dolce Vita and 81⁄2, but he began his filmmaking as a neo-realist, grounding his films in the life of real streets, poverty and desperation. La Strada, one of the world’s greatest films, is about Zampano (Anthony Quinn), an abusive strongman in minor one-ring circuses, and Gelsomina (Giuletta Massina) the frail, waif of a woman he buys for his assistant. It’s a magnificent film, but things do not go well. (108 minutes)
