Kirkland’s mastery of the blues has brought him international recognition for his performances with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Musicians of Nepal, Willie Nelson, Chuck Berry, and national tours with country and Broadway star, Gary Morris.
Kirkland’s musical training and performing began at age 6 in Winterville, Georgia. He learned to sing the blues on the assembly line in Kansas City while working his way through college. Three days after earning his B.A. degree in psychology , his first blues band was born in St. Louis. folk, progressive jazz, and blues. Toss in some classic rock and gypsy swing, and you have an evening filled with musical adventure.
The Delta Sonics music takes a Chicago Blues base and seasons it with Swing, Delta, N’awlins R&B and some early Rock ‘n’ Roll. They were Westword’s best blues band in Denver the last five years (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) and have seven straight nominations.
