Denver Rocks! Let's do cool things!
The screen adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer-winning novel, Gone With the Wind, is one of the greatest movies of all time. Denver’s own Hattie McDaniel portrayed Mammy, becoming a Hollywood legend when the role earned her the 1940 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In her 10th-grade year at Denver’s East High School, McDaniel had won a gold medal for dramatic speaking. She joined the family vaudeville troupe, then, after touring nationally as a jazz vocalist, became a radio comedienne and ultimately a film and television star. Join bestselling historical novelist Charlene Porter for a look at the life of this groundbreaking member of the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame.
