Denver Rocks! Let's do cool things!
In this dynamic outdoor performance, the audience walks to locations where dancers of diverse backgrounds and styles present contrasts of river and city: Denver’s boom-bust personality, rich and poor, nature and industry, serenity and struggle.
The program also draws inspiration from the 40th anniversary of “By River and Wharf,” a 1976 outdoor dance performance in London. In that project, organized by X6 Dance Space, Maedée Duprès performed as a collective member, a company member and as a soloist with many friends and colleagues near the Tower bridge and the Wharf district in London.
Here in Denver, “By River and Industry” starts at a living arts centre, 2231 S. Platte River Drive. From there, a walking tour of the neighborhood is the stage on which modern dance offers a unique view of Denver’s roots and character.
Dancers: Maedée Duprès & Dancers, Mary Lynn Lewark’s Projekt Move, Angela Marquez and Maggie Chapman’s Avatar Movement Dance Company, Chris Harris’ Colorado Youth Dance Theatre and Whitney Waugh Dance
After the performance, a symbolic walk brings performers and audience back into the centre for refreshments and lively conversations. Pat Isaacs will show her new artwork at the reception studio.
