More Information:

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has stated that we need to “raise the brand of government” by operating more efficiently, effectively, and being more entrepreneurial. If citizens are to support their democracy, they need to see elected and appointed government officials are delivering programs effectively and improving the public’s quality of life.

Our panel will discuss the initiatives currently aiming to accomplish these goals: what has been accomplished so far, next steps, barriers, opportunities for participation and their role in “raising the brand of government.” These programs include the Peak Academy, GELA and TLI.

Run by the City of Denver, the Peak Academy empowers employees to streamline their work processes and save money. The Government Entrepreneurial Leadership Accelerator (GELA) program is an effort to bring a more entrepreneurial perspective to city government and to save money. At the state level, the Lieutenant Governor’s office has been developing goals and metrics to demonstrate improved performance. Finally, The Leaders Initiative (TLI) is a private-sector program to train business leaders to prepare for state government positions to foster new ideas and bring entrepreneurial thinking to existing issues.

Panelists:

  • Lauren Larson, Deputy Director for Operations, Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Operating Officer, State of Colorado
  • Meegan Moszynski, President, Quarterly Forum/The Leaders Initiative
  • Brian Elms, Director, Denver Peak Academy and Analytics
  • Brad Revare, GELA Program Head and Director of Business Partnerships, CareerWise Colorado

Moderator: Paul Teske, Dean, School of Public Affairs (and co-author of Public Entrepreneurs: Agents for Change in Local Government, 1995).
