FINAL WEEK: The Power of Poison

January 4, 2016 - January 10, 2016

The Power of Poison offers a fascinating look at poison in nature, literature and forensic science at the Museum of Nature and Science. The exhibit is included in admission.

DMNS’ Top 10 Things to Do at the Exhibit:

1. Wander through a Colombian forest and explore poison in nature.

2. See live poison dart frogs and learn how their toxins protect them from predators.

3. Explore models of venomous insects at three times their normal size.

4. Encounter the witches from Shakespeare’s Macbeth as they surround their bubbling cauldron.

5. See the Mad Hatter at his tea party and discover what poison inspired this famous character.

6. Turn the pages of a “magical” Enchanted Book that reveals facts about poisonous plants.

7. Watch the ancient myths of Hercules and Medea unfold in animations projected onto ceramic pots.

8. Enjoy a live show about a real-life poisoning case from the 19th century that led to new methods of poison detection.

9. Play forensic detective as you explore life-size shadow boxes depicting accidental poisonings.

10. Walk by the model of a gigantic yew tree, which is poisonous if ingested by humans but whose bark contains a chemical proven effective in cancer treatments.
