In honor of Women of Abstract Expressionism, the next edition of the Clyfford Still Museum’s ongoing collaboration with the Denver Film Society offers a fascinating look at one of abstract expressionism’s most galvanizing figures. Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict, a feature documentary based on Peggy Guggenheim’s sole authorized biography, explores the life of a 20th-century art icon. Ahead of her time and an heiress to her family fortune, Guggenheim became a central figure in the modern art movement. Her colorful personal history included trysts, affairs, and marriages with such figures as Samuel Beckett, Max Ernst, Jackson Pollock, and Marcel Duchamp. While fighting through personal tragedy, she maintained her vision to build one of the most important collections of modern art, which today is enshrined in her famous Venetian palazzo.
