film/Still: Medicine for Melancholy

This season, the Clyfford Still Museum is delighted to partner with Alamo Drafthouse to present films that relate to both the exhibitions on view at the Museum and the wider art world. Medicine for Melancholy (Barry Jenkins, 2008, 88 minutes)

Twenty-four hours in the tentative relationship of two young San Franciscans also dealing with the conundrum of being a minority in a rapidly gentrifying city. Medicine for Melancholyis both a timeless story about fleeting connections and a heart-stopping snapshot of a time and place that will never exist again.  The first feature film from writer and director Barry Jenkins, Medicine for Melancholy received its premiere at the 2008 San Francisco International Film Festival.  Jenkins is the director of Moonlight, which recently won the 2017 Academy Award for best motion picture.
