Denver Philharmonic Orchestra: Oktoberfest

Transport yourself to Munich for Oktoberfest on September 29 as Denver Philharmonic Orchestra’s 70th Season premiere kicks off with a pre-concert Bavarian street festival!

DPO will welcome oboist Hideki Machida from the Bavarian Philharmonic, their transatlantic sister orchestra, to perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s spirited Concerto for Violin & Oboe with DPO’s own concertmaster, violinist Katherine Thayer. Joining DPO for Franz Schubert’s Magnificat are the Colorado Repertory Singers and solo vocalists Emily Morris, Jennifer DeDominici, Kevin Gwinn and Nicholas Navarre. The night concludes with Johannes Brahms’ emotional Symphony No. 2.

7:30–9:30pm (with intermission), doors open at 5:30pm

More Than Music

DPO hosts activities before, during and after each concert. More Than Music events are free to attend for all ticket holders. Participants may save their concert hall seats by displaying the “Save The Seat” message printed on the back cover of our concert programs. Here’s what’s lined up for this concert:

Bavarian Street Festival

Join us in the street outside Central Presbyterian for food, beer, traditional Bavarian dancing by the Chalet Dancers, games, a giant pretzel selfie-corner and more!

Pre-concert Chat, starting at 6:30pm

Join us for a free, informal pre-concert chat about the music you’ll be hearing. What should you listen for? What is the music’s historic and cultural context? Associate Conductor Hisham Bravo Groover will give you insights into the music and music-makers you’ll be listening to.

Wine and Craft Beer, starting at 5:30pm

Clink a glass of wine, or Oktave Oktoberfest-style beer, the official DPO craft beer from Ursula Brewery! Sorry kids, this More than Music event is 21+ only. $5. 🍷🍺

Complimentary Coffee, starting at 5:30pm

Our friends at Purple Door Coffee will be brewing java for you to enjoy.
