Chance to Dance offers professional dance workshops (beginner and intermediate level – open to anyone regardless of age or ability) that the public can register for and attend for FREE. Over lunch, there will be an opportunity connect with dance companies and studios, learn about their programs and even sign up for classes. The afternoon will showcase professional dance performances and a youth dance competition.

MASTER CLASS BREAKOUT SESSION #1
9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
Colorado Ballet
Teacher: Jayne Persch
This class can serve as an intro to ballet as well as a chance to work on fundamentals for experienced students. Ms. Persch has an extensive history as a former dancer with England’s Royal Ballet. She is a certified teacher in ABT and in Feldenkrais based Self-Corrective Mechanisms. This class will incorporate healthy dance practice with classical ballet. (All ages welcome)

Street Jazz Fusion Dance
Teacher: Cedric Hall
This Street Jazz Fusion class blends modern dance styles, like hip hop, breakdancing, funk and electronic dance, and builds on the improvisational nature of the styles. Originally from Detroit, Mr. Hall began dancing with the Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre’s CONSORT Youth Dance Training and Development Program, and later became a company member. Mr. Hall was featured in a number of musicals including “The Wiz,” “West Side Story” and “Footloose.” This is Mr. Hall’s eighth season with the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble and he is the director of the CPRD Academy Children’s Ensemble. (All ages welcome)

Bennett Irish Dance

In this class, participants will learn a few basic Irish Dance steps. As the class progresses, you will learn more elaborate solo and group dances. (All ages welcome)

Lighting for Dance
Teacher: Mark. J. Gabrielle de Bell
The Human Body offers an infinite number of views and the slightest change in angle, posture or juxtaposition of parts creates a new and distinct impression. Dance infuses movement and passion into the equation bringing a new and unique 360⁰ vision. We will explore how lighting enhances that vision, not only setting tone, texture and mood of a piece; but how the movement of light itself helps tie together all of the nuances of Dance. (All ages welcome)

Bboy Factory
Teacher: Ian Flaws
The Bboy Factory master class is designed to break down key fundamental movements to connect and transition between the different elements of Breakin’. Many people know individual moves, but without transitions and rhythm these moves become simply tricks. By teaching the connections, this class will illustrate how to make these “tricks” into a dance. Please bring sneakers. (All ages welcome)

Learn how music informs movement and how movement can define the music as you work to construct choreography. Attendees will explore movement through an inclusive, generative process. (Intermediate Class)

BBTA CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION

2015 Theme: Remembering Michael Jackson
DPS students (ECE-12th grade) created original choreography for a 3-4 minute dance that celebrates performances by Michael Jackson. Performances by Swingin’ Denver, Spoke N Motion, Bboy Factory, Sweat Shop and Ni Shang Dance Academy will also be interspersed throughout the competition.
