Denver Rocks! Let's do cool things!
As the exhibition Wyeth: Andrew and Jamie in the Studiodemonstrates, various forms of innovative representational art thrived during this same period and, since the 1960s, have risen to make “realism” a dominant force in recent art.
This slide-illustrated discussion presented by Dean Sobel, director of the Clyfford Still Museum, will consider European movements like “New Objectivity” and Surrealism and their responses to abstraction, as well as single figures such as Robert Henri, Grant Wood, Alex Katz, Chuck Close, Duane Hanson, and Damien Hirst, who stand at the forefront of this parallel development in 20th century art and beyond.
First-come seating. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Lecture is included with Denver Art Museum admission and takes place in the Hamilton Building on the Lower Level.
